Our Bremerton clinic practice is based primarily on treating typical musculoskeletal injuries seen in family practice.

Bremerton Programs:

General Orthopedics:  All of our clinics have PT's with extensive specialized training and many years of experience in treating both spinal (neck/back) injuries as well and extremity (shoulder, elbow, wrist, hip, knee, ankle, and foot) injuries.  The different physical therapists have many similarities but also utilize a variety of different approaches in how they treat problems based on the differences in their training and their experiences.

Post-Surgical Rehabilitation:  All of our clinics have PT's with extensive experience in post-surgical orthopedic rehabilitation.  Many of these problems utilize protocols that may vary from one doctor to another, but we understand this and make the appropriate adjustments as needed for different surgeons.

Gym Pass:  Patients that are done with their supervised physical therapy programs can purchase a pass that allows them to continue coming in and using our gym to assist with their exercises.  This allows us to still keep an eye on them and also answer any questions that may come up.

McKenzie Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy for the Spine:  This is considered one of the most effective treatments of spinal conditions, internationally.  The patient will be evaluated by assessing the movement of their spine, testing a specific direction of movement repetitively.  Repetitive movements which increase the patient’s range of motion and/or decrease their pain will dictate the prescribed exercise program.  Pathologies of the cervical, thoracic, and lumbar spine can be effectively treated with the McKenzie method, and in many instances, with fewer visits.  Applying the same principles to joint pathologies of the upper and lower extremities has also met with great success.  Rick Meade, PT, is a certified McKenzie practitioner.

Vestibular / Balance:    Jim Trostad, PT, OCS, provides a specialty program which involves evaluation of positional vertigo conditions which commonly include symptoms of  dizziness, nausea and imbalance, and are treated by performing specific maneuvers (i.e. Epley Maneuver). If your symptoms are caused by damage to peripheral or central structures, then retraining your vestibular system is necessary through either adaptive or habituation exercises.

Tai Chi:  David Kiesel, PTA, is trained in this ancient martial arts-based Chinese form of self defense, exercise, art form and relaxation technique.  It is a scientifically proven method of restoring and maintaining balance, mobility, strength and flexibility.  At our Bremerton clinic, selected Tai Chi movements are used in conjunction with other types of physical therapy to help patients regain strength and balance, and overcome their fear of falling.  In addition, the traditional Yang style short form is taught in a weekly class.  It is composed of a series of gentle, graceful movements linked together in a continuous, smooth-flowing sequence.  This class is for anyone (including non-patients) interested in maintaining good health.  The personal health aspects of this martial art are focused on, with the self defense and philosophical aspects occasionally used as teaching aids.

Aquatic physical therapy is movement and exercise in a pool to help reduce pain while improving strength, flexibility, and physical conditioning.  For some patients, therapeutic exercise in the water is just one part of a rehabilitation program following an injury or surgery.  For other patients with long-term conditions like arthritis or fibromyalgia, aquatic therapy is the gateway to independent pain management and overall fitness through water exercise.  The buoyancy and uniform resistance provided by water permit safer, more effective early rehabilitation of conditions affecting the spine or extremities. Sharon Stanley, PT, of the Bremerton branch of Kitsap Physical Therapy provides deep- and shallow-water aquatic therapy programs at the Glenn Jarstad Aquatic Center adjacent to the Bremerton YMCA.

Fall Prevention:  Falls are a major cause of injury and loss of independence for many seniors.  After a first event, the subsequent fear of falling can create a downward spiral of inactivity and weakness that increases, rather than decreases the likelihood of injury.  The Bremerton clinic offers physical therapy that focuses on solving your personal balance and strength issues.   Using a number of simple, but effective tests, we identify how likely a fall is in your near future.  The results of these tests also tell us the areas to focus on to restore your strength, balance and coordination.

In addition to individual physical therapy, Cheryl Donovan, PTA and David Kiesel, PTA offer to the public an informative and interactive group presentation about the personal and environmental risk factors for falls among our senior citizens.  They offer practical solutions to help you return to a less fearful and more active life.  These presentations can be scheduled at our Bremerton clinic or at your facility.

Women's Health:  Dana Jackson, PT, MPT, OCS, specializes in women’s health physical therapy including treatment for urinary and fecal incontinence, pelvic pain and pre and post natal care.  She utilizes a variety of evaluation and treatment techniques depending on the diagnosis and individual patient.  Treatment may include biofeedback to help strengthen and/or relax the muscles, manual therapy techniques such as soft tissue/visceral mobilization and strain/counterstrain, modalities such as ultrasound and electric stimulation, therapeutic exercises and education regarding the patient’s condition and home management.
