Low level Laser Treatment
Laser therapy is a treatment
modality that uses red and near infrared light over an injury or
wound, laser has properties of bio-stimulation to promote and
improve healing without any risk of damage to the tissues.
Laser is an acronym for “light
amplification by the stimulated emission of radiation”, and low
level lasers use the cold red part of the spectrum and treatment
involves a polarized concentrated beam which can painlessly
penetrate the skin up to a depth of 4-5 cm. It has no known side
effects but is an effective bio-stimulator to the cells in the body,
promoting repair and pain relief. Laser therapy triggers a response
in the tissue to encourage small blood vessel regeneration,
increases cell proliferation and accelerates collagen synthesis into
an area of damaged tissue, which can speed up the healing of wounds
and soft tissue damage. Laser therapy also improves tissue
metabolism, has anti inflammatory and analgesic effects, stimulates
nerve function and can reduced edema.
Laser therapy can be used in
both acute and chronic pain, for tendonitis, strains and sprains,
post operative pain, hematomas, nerve repair, carpal tunnel and over
use syndromes, RSD, fibromyalgia, lymphedema and joint arthritis,
plus it is used to improve wound healing from surgical incisions to
chronic skin ulcers from poor circulation.
