Arthritis and osteoporosis are not only concerns
of the elderly, for also for many people at earlier stages in
life. Our therapists devise exercise and treatment programs to
address both arthritis and osteoporosis at all stages of the disease
and for all stages of life. If addressed early in the progression,
joints and bones may be protected with strengthening programs and
protective body mechanics. If treatment is sought in the later
stages when significant pain and dysfunction are already present, a
therapeutic program utilizing pain relieving modalities and manual
therapy may be helpful in maintaining or improving joint function
and allowing a more active program to be initiated. As pain
decreases a more active program can ensue, allowing higher levels of
daily and recreational activity participation.
With osteoporosis a program of strengthening to help
stimulate bone density is initiated and a comprehensive program to
address good body mechanics and fall prevention. Falls can be very
damaging when osteoporosis is present and a fall prevention program
is extremely important part of a rehabilitation program. Along with
a program of improved body mechanics to reduce the risk of spinal
compression fractures.
